Northeastern upends Number one Boston College, UNH alone in first: Saturday recap

Maine 3 at Lowell 0
LOWELL, MA - Gustav Nyquist scored twice and Brian Flynn registered his 100th career point with an assist to help Maine earn a sweep of the weekend series at Lowell. Dan Sullivan, getting the start in net for the second straight night, stopped 28 RiverHawks shots to preserve his second shutout in as many nights. Joey Diamond had the second Black Bears goal.

Boston University 1 at Providence 0
PROVIDENCE, RI - Joe Pereira scored 1:55 into the second period and Kieran Millan stopped all 32 Friar shots that he saw to preserve the shutout and keep the Terriers in firm control of home-ice advantage in the Hockey East playoffs.

at Merrimack 2, UMass 1
ANDOVER, MA - Mike Collins and Jesse Todd scored for the Warriors and Joe Cannata stopped all but one of the 16 Minutemen shots he saw on the night to maintain his league lead in wins. T.J. Syner scored a late goal for UMass, but it wasn’t enough to get back as Merrimack swept its third straight weekend series and recorded its eighth straight win. With BC's loss to Northeastern, Merrimack is now tied for second in Hockey East and holds the tiebreaker over the Eagles.

at Vermont 2, New Hampshire 2 (OT)
BURLINGTON, VT - Paul Thompson recorded his 30th assist on a Phil DeSimone goal, but the Wildcats were unable to muster much more offense. Matt Di Girolamo stopped 40 of 42 Catamount shots to preserve the tie. The three-point weekend moved UNH two points ahead of Boston College for first place in Hockey East; Vermont is now tied with UMass for seventh.

at Northeastern 2, Boston College 1
BOSTON, MA - Braden Pimm scored the game-winner and the Huskies held off a late fury by the first-ranked Eagles to secure a berth in the Hockey East playoffs. Brodie Reid also scored for Northeastern, which saw Tyler McNeely fall short in his bid for his 100th career point and Wade MacLeod’s eleven-game Hockey East point streak broken in the game. Chris Rawlings stopped 36 of 37 Eagles’ shots, but wasn’t able to turn away Cam Atkinson’s seeing-eye wrister from the bottom of the right face-off circle that beat Rawlings glove-side. The goal was Atkinson’s 24th, and ties him for the league lead with UNH’s Thompson.
