Greg Cronin, Albie O'Donnell suspended by Northeastern

Northeastern head coach Greg Cronin and associate head coach Albie O'Donnell have been suspended by the team following allegations of possible recruitment violations discovered today.

Sources familiar with the team indicate the the violations pertain to the recruitment of prospective student-athletes, and are in no way related to the recruitment of freshman forward Cody Ferriero, who had committed to play hockey at Boston College before joining Northeastern in the fall of 2010.

Northeastern Athletics Director Peter Roby issued a statement saying that “We are taking this action now to reinforce a culture of integrity within our department. We are committed to operating an athletics program that is reflective of the values of the university we represent. It is imperative that we conduct our activities in full accordance with NCAA and conference rules. We are dedicated to that effort, and we are taking all appropriate steps to ensure that is the case.”

No word on when Cronin or O'Donnell might be reinstated by the team. Northeastern skated to a 7-7 tie with first-ranked Boston College on Friday night at Conte Forum.
